5 Signs That it's Time to Replace Your Dishwasher
- Pre-rinsing your dishes has become a must. If you can’t get clean plates and pans from your dishwasher unless you pre-rinse them, this may be a sign that your unit is no longer working efficiently. Pre-rinsing dishes if you have caked-on food is normal, but it shouldn’t be a must with every single wash cycle.
- Standing water can be seen in the bottom of the machine. If you notice standing water after the drying cycle is complete, then it’s an indication that it may be time to replace your machine.
- You notice rust inside or outside of the unit. Seeing rust on your dishwasher is not normal. Rust is an indication that there is water leaking. Sometimes the repair work for this kind of problem could cost more than just replacing the unit.
- Cracks can be seen inside or outside the machine. If there are cracks anywhere on the unit, water is going to leak out. This may eventually mean puddles of water that damage tile, laminate or hardwood surfaces.
- The door isn’t closing all the way. If you can’t securely latch the dishwasher’s door, then water is going to leak out. All that may be needed is a new latch. However, if your unit is over a decade old, this problem may indicate that the machine has become warped and no longer closes as it should.
