With the humid summer heat, you may have your air conditioner running all day and night. These cooling units help keep your family comfortable on even the hottest days.
We thought it may be a good idea to share some common air conditioner myths with you so that you can better understand exactly how this system works.
- An energy efficient air conditioner will help you to automatically save on your monthly energy bills. This isn’t true because you need to first make sure that the unit you have purchased and installed is the right size for your home. A unit that is too small will be running overtime to keep your family cool. A unit that is too big will constantly be turning off and on, causing premature wear and tear. It also won’t be able to properly dehumidify your home.
- Adjusting your thermostat to a very low temperature will help to cool your home faster. This isn’t true since the air handler inside of your cooling system can only move the warm air so quickly. This doesn’t lower the temperature any more quickly, and it ultimately results in wasting energy.
- If the doors and windows are closed, I’m not losing any cool air. This is true only if you have proper weather-stripping around your window and door frames. Gaps in these frames can result in conditioned air from inside your home getting out. This, in turn, causes your air conditioner to work extra hard to keep your family cool and comfortable.
- It wasn’t a very hot summer, so I don’t need to schedule an appointment for maintenance. Regardless of what kind of summer your area has seen this year or last year, you still need to schedule routine maintenance every year. A maintenance appointment is when many problems can be discovered and taken care of. Additionally, during a tune-up, the components inside the system are inspected and cleaned so they aren’t covered with dust and dirt.
The next time you think of or hear any of the above-mentioned myths, remember this blog post and know what the truth actually is!
