What Thermostat Settings Should You be Using?

Listed here are helpful tips from the U.S. Department of Energy for lowering your energy use this season with the proper thermostat settings:

  1. When you lower your home’s temperature by 7-10 degrees Fahrenheit for at least eight hours a day, you could help to save nearly 10% on your energy bills.
  2. When you are away in the summer, keep your home warmer than you would like it if you were there. It is recommended that you set the thermostat to around 78 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. When you are away in the winter, keep your thermostat at around 68 degrees Fahrenheit.
  4. You could also raise or lower the temperature inside your home, based on the seasonal information above, while you are sleeping at night to help with saving energy.
  5. Do not immediately set your thermostat much higher or lower than normal when you get home thinking that it will cool or warm your rooms any faster. It won’t happen.
  6. Consider buying a programmable thermostat to help with “scheduling” times for when the thermostat is set higher or lower when you are away at work or on vacation.

These thermostat settings will help you save energy and money any season of the year.
